Awards Definition

The definitions and requirements for awards are found in Chapter 10 of the Policy and Procedures Manual.  Please use the latest edition as there have been some changes since last year.  If you have read the Fall Edition of your Ski Patrol magazine, then you have an idea of the awards that are initiated at the patrol level.  These flow to Region and the selectee's are sent on to Division and from there to National.
Here is a brief summary of  awards available to be submitted:

  • Merit Stars-Purple--Given for saving a life through emergency care by an individual who is primarily responsible

  • Blue--Given for outstanding or heroic use of  ski patrol skills that do not meet Purple Star criteria or for outstanding service in a support role.

  • Green--Given for outstanding act of heroism that does not meet the requirements of a Purple Star.

  • Yellow--Given for any outstanding act or service to NSP and may be given for support roles associated with the other merit star awards.

  • Patrollers Cross--Given to an individual who is seriously injured while performing patrol or rescue duties.

  • National Outstanding Awards-Large Alpine Patrol--Selected from nominations of patrols with 41 or more members.

  • Small Alpine Patrol--Selected from nominations with 40 or less (20 or less for N.H. Region) members.

  • Outstanding Alpine Ski Patroller Award--Selected from nominations sent in each year by patrols.

  • Outstanding Student Ski Patroller Award--selected from nominations sent in by patrols on students through senior year in high school.

  • Outstanding Paid Ski Patroller Award--Selected from nominations from patrols of individuals who are a full time employee and paid to patrol.

  • Outstanding Auxiliary Patroller--Selected from nominations from patrols.

  • Outstanding Educator Award--Selected from nominations from patrols to an individual who has been an NSP certified instructor in one or more of the NSP educational programs.

  • Outstanding NSP Patrol Representative Award--Selected from nominations submitted and any active patrol representative is eligible.

If you have other individuals that you feel should be recognized, there are Certificates of Appreciation that can be requested.  These may be given to members as well as non-NSP member or groups.  Remember ,the deadline for submission to me for the outstanding awards is January 6, 2006.  The selectee's  will be be announced at the Region banquet on April 22, 2006.
