STUDENT ADVISOR'S
Chris Rousseau - Student Advisor

Welcome to the New Hampshire Region Student Patrol Advisor page of our website.  This section has been updated to serve you, the advisor, and your students better.  You will find a multitude of downloads to assist you with the day to day operation and maintenance of your student patrol.

SEASON TRAINING ASSISTANCE

Whether you are a returning student advisor, or brand new to our ranks, there are a few simple things to remember:

  1. Student Patrollers should be given their own copy of the NH Region Student Patroller Manual.  This can be obtained by clicking here.  This manual is full of useful and helpful information on the history of student patrolling, Student responsibilities, OEC, S&T training opportunities, and scene management principles that today’s students need.
  1. Each Student Advisor should have his/her own copy of the Student Patrol Advisor’s Manual.  This can be obtained by clicking here.  This manual is a companion guide to the student manual mentioned above.  It contains information in italics at the end of each chapter for use by the Student Advisor.
  1. All though the training manuals offer a scenario for advisors to review over with their students, you can obtain additional practical scenarios by clicking here.  Use these with your students though out the ski season to keep them well practiced and to prepare them for the NH Region Student Training Seminar and the Eastern Division Student Training Seminar.
  1. As your students progress through their manuals, they will complete the required trainings and skills.  Each student manual has individual skill sheets to be completed to show competency in those skills, but you will want to keep a master list of completed skills for all of your students.  That master check sheet can be obtained by clicking here.  Post this on a wall in the patrol room or top patrol shack and fill in the dates when each skill is completed.
  1. If you wish to give the students training opportunities outside of the “on-the-hill” activities each week, they can complete the on-line “Triage, the Art of Sorting” program through the NH Bureau of EMS website.  This one-hour CEU program will encourage them to download a workbook, review an on-line video presentation, and complete a small written exam that can be sent in to the Bureau for CEU credit.

The link can be found by clicking here (not available yet).

RECRUITMENT ASSISTANCE

This section is designed to assist Student Advisors in recruiting new student patrollers in their area.  Each year our ranks fluctuate up and down, but with better recruitment, we can help to establish a larger base of students from year to year.

  1. To assist with advertising, you can obtain a tri-fold promotional brochure to hand out by clicking here.
  1. You can show a promotional video to perspective student patrollers at an open house by sending an e-mail to: crousseau@greatbrook.net. Once a request is received, a CD with our video will be sent to you and your mountain.  Use this in order to show interested people what student patrollers do.  Please make sure to include your mailing address in the e-mail request.
  1. Encourage all new and current Student Patrollers to attend the NH Region and Eastern Division Training Seminars that are held each year for the benefit of the students.  You can find out more information on the NH Region Training Seminar when they become available.  Check this site often to see updates posted!  Funding opportunities are available to assist students in attending these seminars.
